A note on answers:Every answer is drawn from the collection's digitized records and cites the records it uses. When the records don't show something, the archivist says so. The records are never trained on. They are read fresh for every question, and deleted when a shelf is removed. Conversations last only while you're on the desk — leaving or reloading starts fresh; nothing is stored on the server. See more.

A note on questions:Questions may be kept for up to six months to help developers check the accuracy of the system — stamped with the date only, and with nothing about the asker or their browser; a few, reviewed and kept as standing test questions, stay longer. If you rate an answer, the rating is noted with the question on the same terms. Answers are not logged, with two exceptions: if you press “Something look wrong?”, tick keep this answer beside a rating, or send a note with your rating, that answer travels with your report and is kept up to two years so the problem — or the good result — can be checked.
